VMware kauft Know-how von EMC

Ionix-Lösungen für IT-Management erweitern VMware vCenter für Private Cloud-
Infrastrukturen

– 2. März 2010 – EMC und VMware haben ein Abkommen unterzeichnet, nachdem VMware
Software-Lösungen und Expertise von EMC Ionix im Wert von 200 Millionen
US-Dollar kaufen wird. Mit der Akquisition vervollständigt VMware sein
Portfolio und erweitert die VMware vCenter-Familie um Compliance-Standards für
virtualisierte Umgebungen. VMware plant, die Produkte für Cloud-Infrastrukturen
auf Basis von VMware vSphere zu optimieren, damit einfaches und automatisiertes
IT-Management den Weg zur Private Cloud erleichtert.
VMware wird die Technologie
und das geistige Eigentum der Management-Produkte FastScale, Application
Discovery Manager, Server Configuration Manager und Service Manager übernehmen.
Das Unternehmen ist künftig verantwortlich für Entwicklung, Marketing, Vertrieb
und Support der Lösungen in USA, Europa, Israel, Indien und Australien. EMC
wird alle Produkte künftig weiter als Vertriebspartner anbieten und die Marke
Ionix behalten. Damit investiert EMC weiterhin in Lösungen für das durchgängige
Management von Informationsinfrastrukturen, darunter Netzwerk-, Speicher- und
Vblock-Lösungen. EMC und VMware ermöglichen auf diese Weise gemeinsam, dass
ihre Kunden noch schneller die Vorteile von Cloud Computing für sich nutzen
können. Die reine Bartransaktion wird voraussichtlich im zweiten Quartal 2010
abgeschlossen und wirkt sich nicht auf die Ergebniserwartungen von EMC und
VMware aus.
